Wheel, Brake & Tyre Maintenance Guidance
Regular Inspection Requirements
Aircraft landing gear components require regular inspection to ensure continued airworthiness and safe operations. We recommend the following inspection intervals based on manufacturer guidelines:
- Pre-flight: Visual inspection for tyre wear, correct inflation pressure, brake fluid levels, and visible damage to wheels or brake components
- 50 hours or 6 months: Detailed inspection of brake lining thickness, brake disc condition, wheel bearing condition, and tyre tread depth
- Annual inspection: Complete wheel removal, bearing inspection and repacking, brake system overhaul inspection, and detailed tyre condition assessment
- Component replacement: Brake linings at minimum 0.100 inch (2.54mm) thickness, tyres when tread depth reaches manufacturer limits, wheel bearings per manufacturer recommendations
Wheel & Brake Assembly Maintenance
Cleveland wheels and brakes require periodic maintenance including brake cylinder inspection for anchor bolt sloppiness, brake lining thickness measurement, and torque plate bushing condition assessment. All maintenance should follow manufacturer Component Maintenance Manual procedures to ensure proper aircraft operation and regulatory compliance.
Aircraft Tyre Care & Storage
Michelin and Goodyear aircraft tyres should be stored in cool, dry conditions away from direct sunlight, ozone sources, and petroleum products. Proper inflation pressure should be maintained during storage and operation. UV-resistant sidewalls on Michelin Aviator tyres provide additional protection against environmental degradation when aircraft are stored outdoors.
